I am baaaack! I had a blast in New York City, as always. I also went to IMATS for my first time and it was even crazier than I expected. I waited in one brand’s line for 2 hours…crazy talk! I announced on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram that I was chosen as a host for the Sally Beauty Blogger Style Event in Baton Rouge, LA for this Friday, which is April 17. It is my first public event to host and I am more than excited. I will be at the Hammond Aire Plaza Sally Beauty Supply location from 4 – 7 pm for those interested in attending. If you happen to be interested, please RSVP at the following link so I can know to expect you 🙂 #SallyBeautyBloggerStyle

Since I have just returned from vacation, I figured now would be the perfect opportunity to share my favorite hairstyles. I’ll be honest with you. When I’m on vacation, I like to get up, eat, brush my teeth, get dressed and go shopping!!! I have NO time to do anything extra to my hair. Here are my tips that work for me on vacation. Believe it or not, kids can use these tricks too!

DISCLAIMER: These products not only work for natural hair, but relaxed and transitioners too. I am partially relaxed. An oxymoron, but I do not get relaxers nearly as often as I used to and I use minimal heat in my hair. I rely on weaves and twists for protective styles.

1) Use Beautiful Textures Shine & Silken Growth Oil in the morning and at night before you tie your hair for bed. I find that this adds a silky texture and reduces frizz significantly for the next day.

Also, if you prefer more of a creamy texture rather than oily for your child, African Pride also makes a moisturizer that should work just as fine!

2) If your hair is curly, use Flexirods and braids to your advantage! Braids actually work wonders when working out because the sweat gets trapped into the braids. When your hair dries, you can take them out and it will dry curly/wavy. Same goes with Flexirods. Curl your hair if it’s straight and curl onto Flexirods. Wake up with voluminous and bouncy curls! Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter is a great option for really defined curls. Apply this before flexirodding your hair and when you wake up, your hair will be just like new.

3) If your hair gets wet somehow, braid or twist it and utilize that free blow dryer in your hotel room! Chances are, it’s included somewhere in your nightly rate anyway and guess what? Any of the aforementioned products will work as a heat protectant. You’re welcome 🙂

4) If you must swim, please wash your hair, but NOT with the hotel shampoo. Like any other product you may be on the hunt for, both African Pride and Beautiful Textures offer great options for shampoo and conditioner.

5) Keep a ponytail holder on your wrist. I know how junior high this sounds, but sometimes hair can get in the way of events and better to have it upfront than to be searching for one later.

6) Slick down those edges! Go ahead and laugh, but I’m serious! LOL no one wants ragged looking edges on their vacation. Luckily, there are options from African Pride and Beautiful Textures.

6) Keep a comb or brush in your purse! Trust me, you may need it and it works well for quick touchups.

7) NO HEAT! If you follow my techniques above, it should not be needed, except for the blow dryer if you’re working out. If you must take it there, Beautiful Textures has a flat iron silkener that will do the trick.

I really hope this post helps those of you who are approaching vacation or are just looking for some new hair products to try on yourself or your child. Please don’t forget to RSVP for my event if you are in the Baton Rouge area here!

The above items can be found at Sally Beauty Supply or Walmart.
