How 15 Minutes of Your Time Can Change Your Whole Perspective on Decision Making

making decisions based on faith

I received so much positive feedback on my last post, short story rather, that I’ve decided to write freely when I have something worth sharing. This will also help me continue to exercise my writing skills I’ve acquired over the years 🙂

I was talking to one of my coworkers one morning before work (I say before because we both get there well before actual shift start time…tardies are a big NO at our job) and she was telling me about how she accidentally shorted a cashier by $1 at a local grocery store. The cashier didn’t notice, but my coworker did after getting back into the car with her boyfriend. She discussed it with him and he simply told her, “consider it a blessing!” The whole while, my coworker was saying, “That’s not a blessing. That’s something that’s disguised to block your actual blessings.” After moments of contemplation, she decided to go back into the store and return the dollar. The cashier was so grateful since her register till wouldn’t be short at the end of her shift.

A day later, my coworker’s boyfriend and herself decided to go grab dinner at Subway. This time, the cashier gave her $1 extra and upon immediately noticing, she returned the $1. Again, the cashier expressed her gratitude and both parted ways.

The morning after, my coworker reported this second consecutive incident to me and expressed to me that she felt like God was testing her and she would pray about it and ask the answer to be revealed to her.

Not even a day later, she went downstairs at our job to grab a snack from the vending machine. Instead of one snack dispensing, there were 2. Anyone want a guess at how much the snack was? $1. The next morning, she came back and told me this and it spooked me to say the least. She continued to tell me about a previous coworker, who actually works in the same building as us (different floor and department now), who has always had a spiritual and encouraging aura. She told her about these 3 events happening to her, all being of the same value, and the other coworker’s response confirmed what she believed all along. They were tests of faith that she passed. If no one was around and she made these decisions about the money, God could easily trust her when people were around. She further explained that these 3 events and the $3 total had a Biblical significance. They represent God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Upon hearing this, everything clicked. She continued telling her that she should be prepared for possible upcoming trials that God would put her through that these tests may have better prepared her to handle. Regardless of the future tests, my coworker told me she would be ready.

Now in the past I won’t lie, I would have quickly taken the extra snack that fell to the bottom of the vending machine and kept my mouth closed, but hearing her story really moved me and changed my perspective on things. Earlier this week, I bought a bag of Zapp’s out of the same vending machine. Instead of 1 bag falling out as I expected, 2 fell. The bag of Zapp’s was $1. I didn’t think twice about what to do with the extra. I immediately took it to the guy who owns the vending machines, who just so happens to work in our building. He thanked me and we parted ways. Any more tests that may come to me in the future, you can bet I’ll be more aware of my decision.

The point of me writing this is not only to share my coworker’s and my story, but to share the bottom line. Often times we make earthly decisions rather than spiritually. That $1 may benefit us at the moment, but what about long term? What about forever? Decisions are often easier to make when we put others before ourselves, when we put that cashier’s till before our own wallets. My coworker’s story definitely affected me and I will hopefully be better prepared for future decisions where my faith is tested. I hope this encourages you to make decisions based on faith rather than short term greed! 🙂

I have 2 giveaways going on currently here and on my Instagram page here. Best of luck.

Enjoy the rest of your Friday!
