I’m Moving to TEXAS + I’ll Be At StyleCon Dallas This Year!

baton rouge fashion blogger, the beauty beau

To all of you who have been reading for the past few months, I’ve been holding back some major stuff and today, I’m here to spill it all! I can’t continue the rest of this post without saying…I’m moving to Texas, Dallas to be exact! This has been something in the works for years and I finally got the perfect break to get out of Louisiana!

This may be a little lengthy, so I apologize in advance. I have to get all the secrets out that I’ve been keeping, so you may want to read all the way through for those 🙂

So basically I’ve been wanting to leave since graduating high school. During that time up until 3 years ago, I was dating idiot after idiot, in which I was convinced to stay in Louisiana. Silly me for not putting myself first. I finally did it 3 years ago when I told Keshaun, “Look. I hate Louisiana. And we’re moving soon, or I’m moving by myself.” He hesitated just a little, and decided it was really the best move…SCORE!

Preparing for this move, Keshaun and I immediately began interviewing in Dallas for jobs. Both of us, after some time, landed a couple. I actually landed a management position at a company I used to work for in the past, Bare Minerals, and accepted the offer and everything. The day before I was scheduled to submit my 2 week resignation to my current job, I received an opportunity to travel to Miami for a blog gig, all expenses paid. Now, I am a huge lover of what I do here, so this was not an opportunity I was just about to reject because I had a job waiting on me elsewhere. I spoke with my boss about taking leave (at Bare Minerals, where I volunteered unpaid btw) for the weekend I was scheduled to be in Miami, and she flat out told me no. I prayed overnight about it and the decision I almost made immediately when I was on the phone with her was confirmed. Minutes within waking up the next morning, I rescinded my job acceptance. I’ve always said that nothing or no one will come between me and blogging, my passion, so that job was pretty much meaningless at that point.

So I’m basically moving in a few weeks without a job. Not to worry though. For those of who don’t already know by now, I spend a lot of time talking and praying to God. One of the main things I spend time talking to him about is blogging and my future with it. It’s one of the things near and dear to me that has never failed me and where I can always turn to vent and share like I’m doing now. That being said…I will be a full-time blogger when I move! *cue the fireworks and confetti*

texas fashion blogger, dallas style bloggerThis is a journey that excites and scares me both at the same time. The scariest parts are the increases in rent I’ll have to contribute and also the $685 I’ll have to pay for individual health coverage. Those could be deterrents in me working for myself, but I know those are just other roadblocks trying to prevent me from doing what I want to do, and I’m not going to let that happen. It’s happened enough already. I’m also not going to let someone else who doesn’t pay any of my bills or contribute to my ridiculous amount of student loan debt tell me I can’t work for myself or I won’t be successful at it. These are the same people who will never get the chance to experience financial freedom and who will always rely on others to pay them or give them money. Not me. Never has been me, never will be me. I have the education, now it’s time to put it to use on myself, a place where I know it’ll reap the most rewards. All this being said, I’m going to keep my head up and press forward. From past experience, worrying won’t change the inevitable.

If I haven’t dropped enough bombs on you in one day, I have another announcement. I will be at StyleCon Dallas on September 23rd!

stylecon dallas influencer

This is another dream I’ve had! I used to want to be a BeautyCon influencer when I was more into makeup, but since I’ve been focusing more on fashion, this opportunity is an absolute dream. It’s a day of fashion and beauty, social media engagement, fashion presentations, motivational keynotes, blogger panels, pop up shops, pamper services and lots of giveaways. I hope to see some of you in Dallas!

Btw, if anyone can offer me any tips on full-time blogging, please let me know! Also, if you have any questions for me, I’m here as well. Happy Day 🙂

  2. I have been waiting for what the big news are and NOW I finally know. I can’t say anything else than congrats to a great decision and I’m glad Keshaun agreed although you basically already had made up your mind before the move, haha. I know what you’re talking about though. I quit my day job to do blogging full time and that equals economic uncertainty as I don’t get a regular pay check every month, but the incomes are more irregular nowadays. Not to worry though, both you and me talk to God and apparently he listens to us. You made the right decision to go to Miami by the way, cudos for that! 🙂

I am going to have to google what StyleCon is, but all of this sounds so so exciting hon!! I am so proud of you for embracing your own strengths and your intention to take those risks! Congratulations on all of this. Sometimes we can almost define our path by the things we chose not to do. The things we decide aren’t right for us, even if they seem perfect on paper.
I wish you all the very best!

Omg Candace that’s HUGE news!! I’m so excited and happy for you that you’re doing this for yourself. I mean life puts us through trials and all those (idiot) exes that convinced you to stay were nothing more than making you realize more and more what you got to do for yourself. Texas is a huge step and I’m so happy you’re just trusting yourself and going for it. And even more happy that you’re going full time with blogging because that’s an amazing achievement.
I wish you nothing but the best

wow, girl! I am glad that you finally decided to move. I moved first time when I turned 18 and afterwards I kept moving and moving to new cities, new countries. It can be hard but also fun, luckily my husband makes enough money to afford living and I can keep blogging, because it is what I truly enjoy to do. I am glad that you going to be part if Stylecon! Quite exciting!
