Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation & Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer Review

Back when I first started doing makeup, foundation used to be the least of my concerns and I honestly didn’t see the use for it when it came to my skin. I even tricked my coworkers and managers at MAC and Bare Minerals into thinking I was wearing it when I really wasn’t since it was “part of the job.” Well since then I’ve “matured” in that category if that’s what you’d like to call it, haha. Though MAC was one of my first purchased foundations, Make Up For Ever was my second. I had seen Make Up For Ever HD Foundation, the original formula, reviewed all over blogs and YouTube channels and it made me quite curious. To be honest, I didn’t really like the formula. For one, I already had really dry skin and I found that foundation accentuated my dryness even more. I ended up selling it and never looking back. That is until, I became curious about the new formula, the Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Ultra HD Foundation. I even saw someone tweet how well it worked for dry skin. Knowing me now, you should know I am now a foundation addict. I literally have about 20 in my drawer…or more! I was even more thrilled when I was contacted by the brand to review this latest foundation to their lineup. I checked my mail faithfully every single day until I got into my hands. Allow me to introduce to you one of my new favorite foundations!

What It Does (credit to Sephora):

Long lasting with a natural-looking finish, Ultra HD Liquid Foundation is formulated with hyaluronic spheres to ensure comfortable wear on all skin types. Available in 40 shades.

40 shades?! Wow! No wonder I have 3 different shades that work for me. You are pretty much guaranteed to find your perfect match…or matches 🙂

I received the shades 170/Y435, 173/Y445 and Y455. My shade match in the old formula was also 173, but for some strange reason, all 3 of these work for me. Well, that’s better for me I guess lol. Here’s what all 3 of the shades look like on my hand:

Ok, I’ll admit #170 looks a bit lighter than most people would feel comfortable wearing, but my neck is a different color from my face anyway, not to mention my forehead is naturally darker than the rest of my face. I typically don’t like to look darker than I really am, unless it’s summer time and I’m actually darker all over, so I will always reach for the lighter shade. For the image below, I chose to wear #173. Now mind you, I don’t like a ton of coverage, but just the smallest amount made my skin all nice and even!

I was also able to try their new primers, the Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primers! They are available in 10 formulas; however, I was sent 4 of them to try.

What They Are (credit to Sephora):

A makeup primer that assists with balancing the skin’s texture and tone for smoother, more even, and longer-lasting makeup wear.

Purpose:

Before I actually read the usage details of all of them, I was using the Make Up For Ever Hydrating Primer. It worked so well for my skin. I was so nice to know that the Make Up For Ever Nourishing Primer is the one actually intended to hydrate dry skin. Now I have 2 to alternate between! In the image below, I selected the Make Up For Ever Hydrating Primer to wear. It helped the foundation blend flawlessly into my skin.

Though the foundation looks beautiful alone, I do recommend applying one of the primers underneath especially if your skin is dry like mine. It helps your foundation look better for a longer period of time as there is no flaking. I did notice that applying the product with my fingers worked better than with a brush. A small amount (quarter-sized) is all you need!

Ummm… I’m not sure how I feel about this foundation, it looks too red and I haven’t ready any good reviews from women of color.. glad you like it though.

I guess it depends on the undertones of your skin. Mine are neutral/yellow. Have you tested out any shades?
