Motives for LaLa Cosmetics Review

Happy Tuesday!

One of my lovely subscribers, Tenesha, sent me some Motives for LaLa makeup to try. I have actually wanted to try this line since 1 of my friends (who also sells Motives) told me about it. I was more than excited to embark on this opportunity. Here is all the makeup I received!

Motives for LaLa Fall/Winter 2012 Runway Collection

AVAILABILITYUnfortunately, I don’t see this palette on the website anymore, but I may have overlooked it. I do see a couple of other palettes from the collection that seem really pretty.
THOUGHTS: These colors are pigmented for the most part. I had a little trouble working with the blue shade; it was not as creamy as the other shades. Make sure you use a great base/primer when applying these colors to achieve maximum pigmentation.
DUPES
I don’t own anything similar to the top left shade.
MAC Deep Truth Eye Shadow is more blue than the blue in this palette.
MAC Humid Eye Shadow is lighter than the green shade in the palette.
MAC Sketch Eye Shadow is darker than the plum shade in the palette.

THOUGHTS: I didn’t find this mascara to clump at all the times I’ve used it. The brush really separates and defines. It gives my lashes a lot of volume, but I didn’t find it to lengthen much.
Motives for LaLa Mineral Lipstick in Beso

THOUGHTS: This lipstick is really creamy. I found it to be quite hydrating on my lips. I did find it to slip into the lines of my lips over time, so I definitely suggest applying some type of lip primer beforehand to limit this. Also, DO NOT taste this lipstick (e.g. kissing or licking your lips). It is not a pleasant taste. It kind of reminded me of Penicillin, that I took a few years back for repeated sinus infections.

Motives for LaLa Mineral Lip Shine in Soho Pink (didn’t take a solo pic of the bottle as I should have 🙁

THOUGHTS: This lip gloss was creamy as well. It had a little tackiness, but it wasn’t MAC Lipglass sticky (y’all know how I feel about sticky lip glosses lol). It is a little sheer, but it’s still enough color to tint the lips for a more natural look. It works perfectly with Motives for LaLa Mineral Lipstick in Beso.
DUPE: This shade is equivalent to MAC Girl About Town and MAC Pink Nouveau Lipstick mixed.

Motives Color Perfection Quad Cream Foundation in Medium-Dark

THOUGHTS: This foundation gave me medium to full coverage, so it is definitely buildable. My assumption is that you could lighten the coverage by mixing it with some type of mixing medium as with all foundations. None of these colors really matched my skin. (I’m an NC42-45 in MAC for color reference.) The top left and bottom right colors have a red or warm undertone, while the top right and bottom left have a yellow or cool undertone. I used the bottom left color and set it with a darker powder and it worked just fine. I have dry skin and didn’t experience any flaking as I do with some foundations. In my opinion, I don’t think this palette could work for darker skintones; all of the colors are for medium complexions. Tenesha has other foundations to choose from on her website, including other forms of foundations (e.g. liquid, powder, etc.).

*I’m not quite sure what type of brush this is, as it isn’t labeled which is a bummer. I would personally use it for small areas, such as around the eye for concealer and for lip products.

Motives Khol Eyeliner in Garden Green

THOUGHTS: The texture of this eye liner kind of reminds me of NYX older eye liners (not the slide on pencils). It’s a little rough and you really have to go back and forth to get a vibrant color like the one on the back of my hand. Make sure not to have too sharp of a point so you won’t scratch your eyeballs out.

Motives Essential Brow Kit

THOUGHTS: These colors are just like normal brow powders. The texture is like butter, a lot smoother than a MAC eye shadows. Don’t scrub the powder too hard as it can cause extra fallout. You really don’t need much to get a lot of color onto the brow. The last color on the end is a brow wax, which I don’t generally use. My only concern is that this brow kit will not accommodate a wide range of skin tones and hair colors. It only has 2 shades, which I’m sure you could mix, but I personally don’t have time to do that. Luckily the brown shade in the kit is similar to the one I normally use.
DUPE: MAC Espresso Eye Shadow is darker than the brown in this trio.

Motives Glitter Pot in Aspire

THOUGHTS: I have no complaints about this glitter. I said in a tutorial (will be uploaded no later than a day after this is posted) that I wasn’t sure if this glitter is eye safe or not. I just looked on the website and it’s suggested for use on the eyes…even better! This glitter works beautifully with my Hard Candy Glitter Glue. I have also filmed a tutorial using this glitter, so stay tuned for that as well.

Overall, I think Motives has some pretty good makeup to choose from. I liked mostly everything I received, which is a good sign. If you would like to place an order, click here or contact Tenesha at (773) 837-7145.

*Motives was provided. All opinions are my own.
